There is nothing that makes a woman feel more feminine than beautiful underwear and a deliciously sensual fragrance, and for a decadent splurge on such luxury items, Victoria’s Secret is undoubtedly one of the best places that a girl can head for. Just as famous for the gorgeous supermodels that strut their exquisite creations along the catwalk as for the products themselves, Victoria’s Secret has transformed underwear design from being pretty things hidden at the back of one’s wardrobe, to lacy and unabashedly saucy phantasmagoria that women around the world crave for.



Victoria’s Secret was established way back in 1977, after San Francisco man Roy Raymond embarked on a shopping trip to buy his wife sexy underwear. Disappointed by the lacklustre items that he encountered, and feeling uncomfortable in such a female-dominated environment, he was inspired to begin his own lingerie business that purveyed exquisitely sensual undies and named it Victoria’s Secret, invoking images of the beautiful lacy undergarments worn by the ladies of that era. An important aspect of the business was also catalogue sales, since many men, like Roy, tended to feel out of place in women’s lingerie stores, preferring to shop for their partners from home. After changing hands in 1982, the company went from strength to strength, and is today one of the biggest specialty retailers of lingerie in the world.



These days Victoria’s Secret boasts hundreds of stores scattered across the globe in some of the world’s most glamorous shopping destinations. There is no doubt about it – lingerie from Victoria’s Secret are absolutely gorgeous, ranging from pretty but practical to romantic and raunchy. However, shoppers be warned – undies from Victoria’s Secret are a pricey indulgence. While the designs and quality of workmanship are undoubtedly first-class, this flimsy phantasmagoria certainly doesn’t come cheap.



While the most well-known creations are undoubtedly the exquisite women’s underwear lines promoted through high-profile fashion shows and media campaigns starring celebrity models such as Giselle Bundchen and Miranda Kerr, the brand also includes numerous other products such as designer fragrances, swimwear, makeup, fashion accessories, personal care items and miscellaneous other goodies. When I visited Sydney recently, I dropped into the store at Sydney Domestic Airport - one of their beauty and accessory outlets, which sold many of the above products, although unfortunately none of the lingerie lines.



In conclusion, while it’s definitely not for the budget conscious, Victoria’s Secret is the perfect place to head to if you’re desiring to indulge in a sensual splurge or to buy a special gift for someone special. With a vast variety of delightfully decadent products, you’ll be sure to find the perfect present for even the most difficult-to-please friend or family member. Here in Australia there are now quite a few stores, with more opening on a regular basis – some purveying beauty and accessories, and others, the much sought-after lingerie designs.
