If, like me, you're a hopeless romantic with a fascination for "days of old, when knights were bold", then you'll definitely love Into Camelot, a unique little store nestled in a corner of South Terrace Piazza in Fremantle. Specialising in clothing, jewellery and giftware evoking images of an idealised medieval era when romance and chivalry flourished, the store has been creatively decked out as a castle, rambling over two levels.

Into Camelot was conceived in 1993 by owner Joyce Campbell, who desired to popularise beautiful romantic clothing for all women, regardless of age, size and shape. Seeing a potential niche in the retail market, she set up shop in vibrant eclectic Fremantle and has never looked back. These days, the business continues to grow from strength to strength, offering not only exquisite feminine attire inspired by the delightful damsels of the Middle Ages, but also pretty dresses of a more every-day kind, custom-made tailoring, exquisitely romantic bridal gowns and bridesmaid's dresses, a mail order service (if you love the sound of the shop but live far away) and fabulously flamboyant costumes suitable for fancy dress parties.

While the bottom level mainly features dress-up costumes for both males and females such as swashbuckling pirate outfits, knight attire, medieval serving wench dresses and all sorts of other phantasmagoria, there are also beautiful jewellery and accessory items for sale as well as contemporary, albeit frilly and feminine every-day apparel.

Upstairs is heaven for unabashed lovers of romantic clothing. If you're planning a wedding, it's here that you can leisurely browse through a breathtaking range of gorgeous wedding gowns, and dresses for attending bridesmaids and flowergirls. Inspired by medieval designs, these lovely feminine garments feature tightly drawn in waist-lines, corsets, ruched bustlines and long flowing sleeves, and are available in a variety of lush opulent fabrics such as velvet, chiffon, satin and lace, adorned with gorgeous braids in contrasting shades. Specific designs have been given deliciously romantic names such as Kaitlin, Galadriel, Agincourt, Gwyneth, Fairytale and Witchery and are available in a variety of exquisite jewel colours and well as lovely creams and whites for weddings.

To complete your new medieval look, Into Camelot also purveys a terrific range of suitable accessories, and these include lovely jewellery items, satin lace-up shoes, various types of flattering corsets, and long, flowing, and extremely dramatic capes and wraps.

The store isn't just for the girls either, so if your man needs to get dressed up as a dashing knight in shining armour, a mystical wizard or perhaps a fearsome pirate, this is the place to come. The store also has an extensive range of lovely children's wear, and attire for young princesses and knights of all ages and sizes can be custom-made in a dazzling range of jewel colours. These beautiful garments are also something truly special for Holy Communions, christenings and confirmations.

Understandably popular amongst the members of Perth's medieval groups and 'girly' girls who enjoy pampering their feminine side, Into Camelot is garnering an ever-increasing number of fans throughout the city and further afield. A truly unique retail outlet, it's a pleasure to browse through if you're a romantic at heart or simply enjoy visiting somewhere a little bit different. If you live too far away to visit, do not fear: Into Camelot has a very attractive website with loads of luscious photos of the garments they design and sell, and it's possible to order online.
